With distractions dying down, relevant news is coming in clearer and this seemed to help investor feelings in the market.
US Small Cap Growth benefited the most from this +8.44%
US Mid Growth was close behind as before +7.14%
Technology was next +6.04%
US REITS finally reached a positive return YTD – gained 3.33% and now sitting pretty at +3.26%YTD.
Global REITS crawled behind +0.02% and is still slightly negative YTD.
Foreign Value outstripped Growth gaining +3.09% and +2.35% respectively
While Small Cap outdid the rest gaining +3.36%
Emerging Markets had good gain and finished the week with return of 18%YTD
Bonds are still boring, but also bleeding… just a small papercut’s worth.
Overall, January ended on a down note. It remains to be seen if the “So goes January…” pattern will hold. So far, it does not appear so. This just serves as more evidence that the market doesn’t really care about the calendar long-term, but rather patterns.
